      cuban stool.jpg
I saw this piece on the 1stdibs.com web site. It's made from thick slabs of Cuban mahogany. The asking price was just short of US$20,000. The stretcher and legs were easy. The top, though, was another story. The sides are curved and beveled; the top, gently curved in two directions. I created the top shape first, using the Loft by Rails plug-in. Then I drew cutting shapes for the curved and beveled edges; those were easy enough, using Follow Me. There was one shape for the end, another for the side. I surrounded my curved-top slab with these cutting shapes and did an Intersect Faces command. After that, I spent quite a while getting rid of the waste.

Several years ago, I bought a big slab of 12/4 mahogany, which I cut up mainly for bowl blanks. Now, I wish I had saved some to make this stool.

      Best,
      dh

        Nice work, David.

I started modeling that stool but got side tracked.

          Dave,
If you get back on track, you'll almost certainly figure out a simpler way to model the top of that stool.

I don't know about. It might be a different approach but...
