Sometimes there can be more life hidden within a 2D image than we think: artist Zsolt Ekho Farkas rendered Gyula BenczĂşr's painting The Recapture of Buda in 1686 in a 3D frame, producing a video that lets viewers almost walk through the painting and experience bloodshed in chilling detail.

Aside from the jaw dropping realization of the work involved, that rising smoke and dust in some of the scenes really brought out the effect of the whole thing.

I think the style should be called PR instead of NPR?!

The original is just awe inspiring... The detail, the man must have had a photographic memory to paint that.

For the original artist, it is not inconceivable that he did simple charcoal sketches on paper before sketching on the canvas prior to applying any paint. Or even sketching on paper and doing carbon transfers or something. But, clearly, he was talented.

saw this a couple of weeks ago and its awesome. i just think he could've gone so much farther with it exploring different angles after putting so much time into it.
