Crap 'Artists Impressions' ...

I don't mean to be nasty, but seriously, have you seen the state of these ...?! Both done on SketchUp too ...

and
These are both from my local paper so there must be tons more out there we can snigger?! Any others?! ...

That's actually not bad compared to some work I've seen put out by some architects' offices. I've come across quite a few sketchuppers who don't put much effort in their work.
In their defense, the "artists" may not have had any idea their work was going to be published. Years ago I made a model for a large project in our office. Did my best in the time allotted and the information given. A few months later the client had the renderings plastered on three billboards around town! If I'd known that would have happened, I would have put more time in fine tuning it.

I see your points- both of yours. What gets me is the roundabout--are they really going to have those ugly barriers there? Why bother decorating the place? I guess those are for the late night pub crawlers so they won't drive right through the planting, but there must be some other solution!

This would be more appropriate:

A street view screen grab with the sculpture model superimposed would have been far superior to that SU rendering.
I do think that that roundabout is a completely inappropriate place for a large sculpture. But the positioning of the model in SU is ridiculous. The barriers are extremely large and there is a wide distance between the barriers so the sculpture needs to go between the barriers, it can't be behind them as they are in the model.
I don't think they are particularly bad, they just look like really quick models to me. Definitely not suitable for publication, and they've only probably been published because they were free and the newspapers are churned out quickly and will accept any rubbish picture they can.
