Request for Plugin
-
Hi all,
One thing we regularly want to do is to take a SketchUp model and convert it to a cut diagram for use by our CNC fabricators. I am yet to find a way to do this smoothly and quickly. Perhaps someone can suggest a solution, if one already exists.
There are a couple of cutlist plugins currently available, but these tend to only provide basic shapes rather than detailed shapes with, perhaps, holes and etchings therein.
I can't claim to understand even the basics of ruby scripts but I was hoping someone might be able to develop a plugin that takes a SU model and converts it to a cut layout that can be used by a fabricator. Ideally, the output would be in dwg or dxf format.
One would need to be able to enter info such as sheet dimensions and any cut margins. Also needed would be the ability to include cut depths. All items on the cutlist layout would be groups or components from within the SU drawing.
I would greatly appreciate any advice as to whether what we are seeking is possible and, if so, whether someone might be able to design the plugin for us. More than happy to pay a fee for this assistance.
Hope someone can help.
Cheers....Scotty

While reading your request I remembered a video I have seen some time ago, not a solution, but one workflow... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdI4PS4-qho

Carsten,
thank you so much for both the prompt response and the great advice. I am so pleased you have a great memory!! Obviously, a 'one-touch' plugin solution would be ideal, but this workflow is fantastic and a great help. You have saved us a lot of time and frustration!
Danke.....Stuart
