That graph could well apply to many western countries, not just the USA.

The answer! I don't know but agree that full socialism is probably not the answer. However as most western countries live in so called democracies its through simple democratic procedures that this unfair imbalance can be addressed.

From what I can see the USA has lost is manufacturing base to the Far East. The reason for me is that BIG CORPORATIONS rule the roost. Big corporations will do what ever they can get away with for the bottom line ...... making a buck. The have become bigger than governments, actually I would go as far to say that they control governments in many ways.

Until these big corporations are made to 'play fair' the wealth of Western countries will remain with the 1%. And the funny thing is that if they were made 'play fair' I feel they probably would accept it and get on with things πŸ˜„ Of course they would fight against constraints via the political parties they heavily influence and it would take totally new 'people parties' to bring about change. This possibly would work until they 'heavily influence' these new people parties and the whole thing would have to be looked at again πŸ˜’

Let's not lose sight of our own responsability. We're all quite happy to turn a blind eye on, say, child labour if that means we pay €15 for a T-shirt rather than €45.

Maybe the big corporations are seeing the writing on the wall, case in point, 'Apple CEO Tim Cook announces plans to manufacture Mac computers in USA'

A related problem is what internet sales have done to local economies. A lot (most?) people would rather buy through the internet, now, rather than buy locally, just to save a few bucks (or out of convenience), oblivious to its detrimental effects on the local economy.

                      My avatar is an anachronism.

U.S. should copy Switzerland and consider a 'maximum wage' ratio, too:
