Any smokers here? Wanna quit?

I was smoking 2 1/2 packs a day, and went with the 12 mg. The first flavor is English toffee. I am having to get used to it. It seems harsh. Unless I take really small hits it makes me couth my head off. Am I too high at 12 mg.? It doesn't seem so because I always seem to want more..

The nicotine level does not affect harshness (or throat hit as we call it). 18mg may be better for you if you smoked 2.5 packs a day. 24mg may be a bit too high and make you feel dizzy.
The liquid you are vaping will have a high PG ratio. For smooth vapour you need a liquid which has a higher VG ratio. High VG ratio also gives much bigger plumes of vapour.
I recommend liquids with a 60/40 PG/VG mix or 50/50. I am currently vaping a 60/40 mix and loving it.
100% PG liquids just make me cough and have little vapour production. Some people like this, although, it's not so common.
You will find US liquids are smoother and have more vapour. Chinese liquids tend to be harsh with less vapour. It's because Chinese cigarettes are generally much harsher than US ones, so the e-liquid industry makes liquids according to the target market. This is just a general rule of thumb; the only way you'll know if the liquid is harsh or not is to find out before buying what the PG/VG ratio is.
When you find a nice flavour with smooth vapour, you'll never look back.

I suppose I need to go back to the shop and ask more questions about what they have. Because I haven't a clue about PV or what ever.....LOL

The coil could be roasted causing a burning of juice hence the coughing also.

Ok so I did some "research". The liquid I bought is a 50/50. The smokes I were smoking were a "Light". The "burn" I am getting is about the same as when I would smoke a cig down to the butt. So if I go with a 40/60 that would make it smoother, or should I just wait and see if I get used to the 50/50?
-
Most of my liquids are 60/40 and 50/50 @ 18mg nicotine. The more expensive ones are very smooth, however, I bought some cheap eLiquids earlier on and they are not so pleasant on the throat (and the flavours aren't so good either)
Try vaping at a lower voltage (if you have that option)
I am becoming convinced that it is worth paying a little more to get good liquids which have a nice flavour and throat hit. Some of the Americans seem to do this very well. The Plume Room and GoodLife in particular, and to a slightly lesser extent Mt Baker)

Its noteworthy that liquids with impurities are also very harsh, they are usually cheap. Good advice Gareth.

Could also be the atomiser that is giving the burnt taste. EGOs do deteriorate quite quickly and occasionally I've had one that tastes terrible straight away.
Try a new atomiser head and a new brand liquid. 50/50 mix is generally very smooth. It's only when you start going to 80/20 PG/VG that you get a big throat hit. Remember its the PG that gives throat hit and VG gives large smooth plumes.
If you still don't have any success try an EVOD at least, it's a very popular atomiser and consistently smooth. The EGO is OK but strictly a beginner device which is actually quite infuriating at times as it's so inconsistent. I used one for a month or so before I upgraded.
Please don't be put off by this experience....sounds like you either have a dud device or liquid.

That was my first opinion.

Thanks for corroborating that Pete.
Might be an idea to just change the atomiser head first to eliminate what is causing the issue.
I doubt very much that a 50/50 liquid is too harsh. In fact, I find 50/50 almost too smooth so I have gone back up to 60/40 for a bit more throat hit.
Again, don't be put off I think you've just been a bit unlucky.

thought I'd better bump this topic before it moves to the next page
.....there are probably many smokers here in SketchUcation who haven't seen this topic and will miss out on the chance to experience being converted to wonderful world of Vaping...!

Spoken like a true missionary!
Although vaping did not work for me (I gummed ) ... it has been a full year since I quit cigs!
I do not miss the butts, ash, or the stink. I have a neighbor two doors down that smokes. When I walk pass his house it reeks of smoke from 75-80 feet out on the street! I used to be generating that kind of stink from our back porch. NO more!
-
Nice work Dan!
Yeah smoking absolutely stinks. Not just around your house but clothes, furniture, skin, hair, car etc....
Nearly a year smoke-free for me now.
I'm still on 12mg nicotine, will probably reduce when I get back from holiday.
Speaking of which.....does anyone know what the rules are regarding E-Cigs and travelling by air? Am I even allowed to take my E-Liquid into Switzerland?
I've got a feeling that several unmarked bottles in my main luggage might look suspicious, so should I juist buy some labelled pre-mixed liquids?
Last thing I want is to arrive in Switzerland with confiscated E-Liquid and E-Cigs!!! I am definitely not carrying anything in my hand luggage though, that's obvious.

Well done Dan.
I must admit I had no idea how bad my house, my car and me must have smelled while I was smoking.....and I don't miss the burn holes in my shirts and car seat I used to get occasionally when I smoked in the car..!
Hey Oli, try vaping on your flight and let us know what happened....!

9 months cigarette free!!

Feeling great indeed...
....have even take up a bit of casual cycling (I've done it more than once, so I guess that reinforces my commitment to 'recycling'...!)

Well I still smoke about 3 cigarettes a day (weekdays). Mainly because, I can't hold the weight of even my small unit in my mouth and work at the same time . We get into production runs and I can't stop to take a break, or my crew stops also! I tell them that "If you want lunch you better be able to have a hammer in one hand and a sandwich in the other" so I have to live to the same standards But I have finally got my juice and unit(s) all working where I like. 40/60 24 mg at 4.0
