If you have time you might visit the Avaaz 'ITU: Hands off our Internet!' petition and add your weight. The details are,
'Right now at a UN meeting in Dubai, authoritarian regimes are pushing for full governmental control of the Internet in a binding global treaty -- if they succeed, the internet could become less open, more costly and much slower. We have only 2 days to stop them."

As you have read on the Avaaz site, this is potentially very serious. It simply does not suit certain entities to have the Net as free as it is and if these entities even manage to control a small part of it, that would be the thin edge of the wedge.
I realise that certain countries on the Globe have already controls in place. This is more reason for us to be vigilant.
