Disney buys Star Wars, $4+ Billion
-
I'm looking forward to it; I've enjoyed the movies, and the animated "Clone Wars" series.
-
Chewbacca, Disney style.

I am definitely looking forward to it. Maybe Mickey will get his own "death star".
-
IMO the Star wars saga ended, so if they are to continue they are going to need a new saga, could be a good thing if done right and if they tap into the thousands of Star Wars forums and indie plots around the internet posted by obsessed fans.
Darth Vader is dead, who will be the new foe? Interesting idea of a new saga, I will be there on day one lining up like an idiot with my boys...sucker for Star Wars.
-
Death Star. I wonder how that was introduced?
DV: I got this great new idea. I call it the Death Star!
Rest of Board: Uh... what?
DV: Death Star. We'll destroy whole planets!
ROB: Darth, can't we think of a better name? Put a little PR spin on it?
DV: Die, you little insect!
ROB: Death Star it is! Anyone wish to vote on it? -
Pete, there is lots of material in the Star Wars fiction that continues the story after ROTJ, so Disney won't be hurting for ideas. There's also lots of material that predates the movies.
Does this mean Disney is analogous to the Dark Side?
-
now that Disney owns it, I'm hoping they push Stars Wars out to us in all sorts of new formats.
- Mockumentaries on the making of the death star.
- A whole series of movies about the ewoks, aren't they adorable?
- Made for TV movie - 'R2D2's Great Escape'
- "How Its Made" about the Light Saber
- Travel Channel special on vacationing in Dagobah.
- etc
I am actually a little excited thinking Disney might take Star Wars and run with it. It could be cool if done well.
-
Chris, you left off the "reality show" bandwagon everyone seems to have jumped on. I'm thinking "Real Housewives of Curoscant" has a nice ring to it. Or, how about "Dancing with the Sith"?

Plenty of life left in it yet...
Skywalker vs. Skywalker
Two middle aged ex-rebels fall out over teaching the children the mystical power of "the force", dad is worried that the kids will turn out like grand-dad if they're allowed anywhere near a light-saber - a heart-breaking tear-jerker capturing the emotional trials of divorce proceedings and who gets custody of the service droids/Wookie!C3P0 and R2D2's Excellent Adventure
An accident with the Millennium Falcon's warp drive leaves the two hapless droids stranded on 21st century earth where R2D2 finds fame as a dub-step bleepy drum-break producer and has to rescue 3PO from the clutches of Bill Gates' secret AI research laboratory.Empire vs. Federation - 3D
A loophole in space time results in a Klingon fleet materialising in the same quadrant as the Death Star and forming an Axis of Evil with the Empire. Can the Federation fight their way through to link up with the Rebels in time to save the universe? LOTS of very loud explosions. He he - well, it hasn't done 007 any harm. I think really that most of the nay-sayers first saw Star Wars when they were young kids. Whatever films they make, they can't hope to recreate the excitement felt at that age, especially when it was such a "first of its kind" type of film.
Good luck to them - there's a new audience being born every day, I'm sure there'll be folks that get a lot of enjoyment out of it. -
What would you rather have.....
Star Wars episode 7
Continuation of Firefly
Another season of Star Trek Enterprise
A new series of Battlestar Galactica
or a new series of Stargate
-
Star wars 7, though a new Battlestar Galactica movie, high budget, could be sweet as well!
-
Firefly, hands down.
Be looking for "Browncoats Unite" on the Science Channel, Nov 11. -
I just watched Serenity again. I guess Firefly is high on my list. Spacer action without the Ewoks or JJB. They need some new angles in the plot. StarWars still holds the special effects category though.
-
Welcome to the machine - RIP Star Wars
-
JarJarBinks = Bad
Ewoks = Good -
you know... they've also bought Indiana Jones...
-
I really don't think anybody should worry too much...
I've been working with Disney over the past 3 years and during that time they've also acquired Marvel Comics and they've been faithful to all the characters and I'm sure they will do exactly the same with Lucas Arts brands...
-
You did see the mess they made of John Carter right?

yup.. and it was a pretty good film. not a summer blockbuster at all tho, I'll grant you that... but all the same a pretty good film.
-
I don't know, I grew up on the original trilogy and to be honest I taught the 3 latest movies were crap, just like Indiana jones 4, man that movie was shite, I can see Disney destroying Star Wars more than what George did by bringing out the last 3 movies, he was planning on bringing out a new Star Wars tv series after the animated clone wars but selling out to Disney out a stop to that, or did it, I heard before George was also looking at making a starwars movie about Han Solo but due to Harrison ford bring ashamed of that role he refused, who knows, but as a starwars fan I'm not keen on a Disney starwars movie at the moment.
@ Chris, battlestar galactica blood and chrome was a new series that was shot down by the syfy network, assholes, they did the same to firefly, but they have a 2 part movie developed, not released yet but there is a trailer on YouTube, and it looks very high budget, shame it's not gonna be a series
