Updating Sketchup help
-
I havent updated my sketchup for over a yr now and i need some tips with this.
I downloaded the new version of sketchup but its promting me to uninstall the old verson first, im a little weary about doing this as im afraid to lose certin features i already have, for example plugins and so on, so what do i need to backup before i go ahead and uninstall the old version??Thank you in advance

Did you download the free version or the pro version this time?
You could make copies of the Plugins, Materials, Styles and Components folders in some other location and paste them back after reinstalling. This might be a good time to clean things up and get rid of plugins and other things you don't use. You might also make a list of the plugins you use most and download them anew to make sure you have the most recent versions.

"Normally" you should neither have to uninstall any older version (even within the same main version where it will be overwritten) nor uninstall/copy/secure any additional things (components, materials, styles, plugins) that you have added to the default install.
I do not know why that prompt pops up - unless you actually have the latest version and the system identifies it as a "repair" or something.
Certainly, to be really safe, you can always make those back-ups.

Yes I found this strange also that I had to uninstall the older version as I didn't need to do so before but after I uninstalled and reinstalled all my plugins and so on we're automaticly applied into the new version, cheers for the help
