Learning? Really? I started reading the article, and halfway down I'm already confused. But I'm just a Mac user.

Anyway I would say learning "at last" instead of "fast".

Fair comment, "At last" it is.

I was not going to upgrade from 7 if it costs more than $100 so this price is fair and inline with Mac prices (Strange thing that, Mac cheaper than PC in something) Window 8 is pretty fast and very stable, I have been running a beta version on my laptop for six months now and it's going well.

Isn't MS moving into making hardware, or sort of partnering in hardware? Apple makes their money on hardware and hopes the software pulls you in. MS was a software company serving a larger hardware market, but now changing?

              sigh
I'm guessing that offer won't be available in my country, just like I can't upgrade to 7 Ultimate. I guess it's time to assemble a new rig, anyway.

Yup, they bought Motorola and are making their own tablets, apparently the new MS tablet is gonna be a game changer...time will tell.

They are worried, very worried. Check this out http://www.asymco.com/2012/07/04/the-building-and-dismantling-of-the-windows-advantage/

At least they are fighting back to regain the huge lead they had. Competition is good.

                    Do I understand this correctly:

                    1. If you have XP update will wipe out all software on your comp?
                    2. If you have Vista it will wipe out your all software?
                    3. If you have Windows7 it will only update and leave all installed software in place?

                    Could somebody please clarify this.

                    Cheers

It usually has been like that (except maybe Vista to 7). The underlying frameworks are just too different from previous versions (also reason why XP doesn't get newer standard-compliant IE9/10).

It would be nice if Windows had an automation to batch reinstall the perferred programs. One could maybe migrate the program settings (Users\YourUserName\Local Settings\Application Data), that contains a lot of junk but probably most programs would find there your previous settings.

Hmmm this is what I was afraid of. It looks fine for my W7 comps but dire for 3 Vista based comps.
