Showing images, on the view, in a tool ?

Looked through the API... searched the forum...
Is there a way (a secret GL constant etc.,) to show a temporary image, in/on the view, in a tool ?
I do not wish to add images to the model's entities collection(s).
Images like scale grips, point bubbles, etc. Whatever I wish... but when the tool deactivates they vanish.

I also wish to draw GL bitmap. Haven't found a way.
