Any long term architects, designers, illustrators, modellers

Hello,
I’ve been involved in architectural illustration since 2006. I'm interested in knowing how much architectural illustration work was available during a more typical construction market?
I’m thinking prior to the formation of the real estate bubble, say pre 2000?
Thanks,

The architectural market is driven by the economy. Its cyclical! Architects are the first to get hired when the economy improves, and the are the first to lay of staff when the economy is in a downturn. It has been like that for well over 5 cycles in my lifetime.

I've been practicing architecture for about 18 years and the only answer I can give you is that it all depends on the client. I've had clients who couldn't visualize plans and elevations and were willing to pay for renderings and I've had clients who refuse to pay for them. Most residential projects don't have the budget for detailed renderings but when I worked on large scale projects (retails, commercial, etc) they wanted the works.
Sorry for the long winded answer, but even during the bubble, it always depended on the client.

Thanks, interesting comments.
Seems this industry is similar to my prior, manufacturing design. Very cyclical.
