Latest Furniture Commission
-
Hey all- So I just delivered my latest woodworking commission, thought I'd share. Included is the sketchup model I used as my working drawings. Came out well I think. Peruvian mahogany, Australian black bean, and ebonized cherry.

Bravo
Always a pleasure to see a SU model realized.

Very nice I like the choice of woods.

Excellent work as usual, Michael. Thanks for sharing.

Looks very nice.

That is a nice piece - well done!
I am intrigued by the use of ebonised cherry. Here in the UK cherry is an expensive wood and I would have used something cheaper if it were to be ebonised - probably beech for use in the frame.

At least around me cherry is only slightly more expensive than beech, depending on the grade of cherry of course (both are nice to ebonize as they have a closed grain and accept stain evenly). 8/4 (2 inch thick) beech is hard to find here in the southwestern US. I used cherry because I already had some in my shop, and the rest I got a really good deal from the dealer that sold me the mahogany. Also, for this application I preferred the stronger grain of the cherry- which is actually still somewhat visible despite the dyeing. But you're right, in general a less expensive wood would work (wood work?) just as well.
Thanks to everyone else for looking. If you're interested here's a link to my online portfolio: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mkaplanfinefurniture/best, Michael

Mike, do you have a website I can bookmark for later?
I have an idea for a custom bed side table I want made but currently my funds are allocated elsewhere but I would like to have someone in mind that can work from a SketchUp model. -
