As a UK citizen, I get very fed-up with USA based software producers that insist on selling their wares through regional and national distributors who then charge a substantial amount extra to sell me the same software that I could buy as a download were I based in the USA.

This seems to be a model beloved of the higher end 3D modelling software vendors. It is a sure way to lose a sale as far as I am concerned - seems like software piracy in reverse. It certainly encourages regular software piracy I would think.

I am guessing that it might be a way for vendors of complicated software to help support a training program in the various areas where they use this mode of distribution - personally I would rather see training sold at a price which supports itself, or commercial video tutorials etc. With manuals and the internet, forums like this one and so forth, I don't need or want formal training.

Is it just me or does this sales model offend anyone else?

      Chris

        Hi Chris

I couldn't agree with you more! Software that is sold as major upgrades (when in fact it is minor improvements) and then older (very costly) versions are no longer supported just gets to me.

It is all about corporate greed....

Many-many experiences in this field. Let's take Sketchup for instance. Or Adobe - or any other "big" software companies.

And yes; only piracy is "encouraged" this way. Easy example:

          1. Adobe announcs a "sale" (50%) on their products in some countries. Like in the UK.
          2. They do not announce it in Hungary (known example).
          3. Hungarian users wishing to purchase in the UK are denied since the sale is not announced in Hungary.
          4. Hungarian income for an average person is about 1/5 of that in the UK.
          5. No sale (50%) but 5x less income in these countries will make this product cost 10x more.
          6. Do I condemn piracy (in this case)?
            No but f***uck Adobe.
(as a matter of record, I do not have this software but use Gimp instead of PS)

            Dear All!

The hungarian reseller of Google Sketchup pro8 is the TrendSOL KFT. They are located near Budapest. They have the hungarian localization for the Sketchup, for Layout and for the Style Builder too.

            Best Regards,
            Bodor István

              Hi István (és szervusz),

Could you guys get the company onto the official reseller list of Google then? It is quite confusing users without it (and let's face it, it would also give some credibility to the company as an official reseller).

Do you also sell student licenses?

Also, I would be interested in that Hungarian version. I have not heard of any "official" Hungarian release yet (but what I know from first hand is that Google does not support "home made" translations).

              Is this the site? http://trendsol.hu/Google-Sketchup-Pro.php

                Hi Csaba, Szervusz!

The 3E Praha is the official reseller in Czech Rep.,Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. The 3E Praha is joint owner in the Trendsol Kft over another hungarian company(Eurosolid KFT -hungarian SolidWorks reseller), so this is the contact between 3E Praha and TrendSOL.
Yes, we are selling student licenses too.
The translation is official. Right now is under testing at the IKEA Europe, after that all of our customers will get it. If you want I will send you the pricelist or please visit the url hereunder:

                  Thanks István,

Yes, I have known of the company in Praha (and have always thought that it was quite stupid of Google that they put several countries under the same hood) and indeed it's nice to see that finally it can be purchased in Hungary, too. Not really (or necessarily) the full version as we can buy that straight from Google but educational licenses (of any kind) have been impossible to buy so far (not as if I needed one any more).
