      Hi Folks,

      Is there a way to find the size of a component or group in one's model (polys or MB), other than saving as a file?

        Windows -> Components -> Select component in list of components in model (home button) -> change to panel Statistics
        (I don't know the exact translations of the menus, but I hope you will find it in your SketchUp)

          thought this Model Info (1.2.0) plugin by Thomas do file size too. it does though calculate geometry of a model.

            what about ComponentReporter++ v1.1 from TIG?

            @unknownuser said:

            Here's v1.1 of ComponentReporter++.rb.
            It does report names, count of instances, nested instances/groups and areas of materials etc...

            btw, i think i am going to use that plugin now though. it looks interesting πŸ˜„

              Cotty that is something like what I am looking for. However if that component has nested components, then I get little information. I am interested in seeing how "heavy" a component is, especially imported components to see if they are too large or I can optimize them for the model.

              Irwanwr. I don't know enough to make use of the data provided by that tool 😲 = I just wanted to check and compare individual components as I work with them.

              Thanks for the ideas.

                Thanks,

                Your reply made me look further and I realize I did not know how to properly use the component dialog (I just don't use it that often, mostly I just make components and use them). There's a button on the statistics tab "expand" and I think that will give me a look at the total number of faces and some idea of the weight of the component, minus that from textures. Also can see nested components and see how efficiently the main component is made.

                Thank you both for your help.

                By the way where do you live in Indonesia Inwanwr? Big country. I traveled some in Bali and across Java (mostly by Bis Malam so I only really saw a few places).

                  you can see that clearly on the info of me on the left pane there. Medan, Indonesia.
                  that is in north sumatera province.
                  so, you are a traveller πŸ˜„ i love travelling too back then. not lately. most travelling was for works. now at home again and got more time to work my way back into SketchUp. i left SketchUp when it was still SU 6.
                  [ed] it's ok if you don't see most places along the journey in Java. according to lore, it was meant to be the longest city island in the world as planned by the Dutch.

                    Sorry, I coulda googled that. Very interesting. I went to Pinang near there but didn't make it to Sumatra. (One of my favorite coffees though!). Don't travel so much lately myself. Have to stay put and try to make a living.
