I'm not sure if this is an acceptable posting, so if it isn't, please let me know so I don't transgress again.

I'm a co-organizer of NYC Sketchup, which I believe is the only user group in NYC.

We're having our first regular, monthly meeting on 10/19/2011 - http://www.meetup.com/NYC-SketchUp/events/33787942/

      We need two things:

      • Attendees! So far, it's looking like the interest level is really low. Either that, or we're not getting the word out. Hence this post πŸ˜‰

      • Extension developers of all stripes. We want to show what people in the real world can do with SketchUp. If you have something that our users should know about, well, we want to give you a stage just for at.

And while I'm at it - any advice on venues or methods to get the word out would be greatly appreciated!

I've attended a handful of SU user groups here in San Francisco. They were organized by a pretty well known SketchUp training group and hosted at their office in downtown SF. The meetings have all been sort of hit-or-miss. One had a handfull of people, one had just about 2 attendees, then one we did at the Googleplex and amazingly all 40 spots filled up πŸ˜„ Then the one after that was almost completely empty again.

Its nice to have a presentation, I could imagine that a hands on thing might be even more interesting to some.

Also, the forums here are very world wide. So its not always easy to find people in your immediate area, even when your immediate area is as large as NYC. You might consider trying to send out invites to the local universities. The architecture, planning, land arch, film, industrial design students might be interested, and they are guaranteed to live fairly close by.

Anyhow, good luck! I emailed a friend about it who lives out there and asked him to send the word along to his classmates.

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

Too bad I'm in Dallas as I'd attend.

Please make sure to post photo's on this forum afterwards.

I believe we have a bunch of NY members here, hope it's a success.

            Hey Chris,

Thanks for the good feedback and support. The hands-on idea is really pretty interesting, at least for some of the meeting. Seems that there's a lot of folks out there that want to get started with SU but don't have that self-starter thing going on.

I hope that the NYC'ers turn up, or we may not have any photos... 😞

              Thanks,
