This began as a card stock model shown in the middle composite with a photo of the original 12th century stave church. In addition to learning SU, one objective was to see how usable existing texture maps that I have would be in SU. I found that they will need some serious work for each to be workable.

I made a lot of mistakes in building this so it wouldn’t pass the requirements for Google Earth use. Maybe later I’ll take a shot at an economical version. The texture is worth using and it's a very simple shape, especially compared to other stave churches.

After some PShop touch up, I inserted it in place of the original church in the Google street level scene in the bottom picture.

I’ve been deconstructing a nine story stav kirke in spare time for over a year that was to be my next card stock model. It's got to be an SU model once I get the proportions down solid. I'm going to have concentrate on removing hidden geometry since the shapes will create lots of it.

Wow! SU has really reordered my life. I find I'm more conscious of small blocks of time not spoken for when I can dive in for a while. Thank you so much to all who have so quickly helped me when I needed it. This is a great place to be.

Hey, great job, and another unique use for SketchUp.
Were you previously doing them by hand drawing?
        Cheers

Caution: SketchUp can be addictive and pretty soon you may find that these "small blocks of time" become bigger and bigger, and you don't care if they are spoken for or not!

          Nice work!

            Thanks Dale and Rick,

Both of your modeling is way beyond awesome!

I essentially photograph buildings and build boxes in their shape and put photos on the boxes. It works best for simple buildings. For Rodven I took bits and pieces of textures from about 20 different photos on the Internet. So visually it’s pretty accurate. For others I create/combine/draw the buildings and textures with Photoshop. I’ve worked in PShop for over fifteen years, so I know about a quarter of it really well. I’m curious, can you/do you use SketchyPhysics to model Mobiles?

I think a “productive” addiction would be nice to add to all of my other not so productive ones. You talk about addictions, how about my spending hours in your “Fine Design” thread, not to mention all of the side trips, Tim Cooper, and MechiCards (I can hear SketchyPhysics calling me). Now, when I’m away from the computer or home, I am looking at the way everything is designed where before it was just “How would I model that?” and I’M ONLY ON PAGE 12 of your thread. But thank you for it.

Must…..find…..more…..time, but where? Ah ha, less sleep…..no, no, too old, suicide…. How about fast food? No, no…..also suicide, grrrrrrr

Quit an inspiration to catch a little attention of two high-end modelers.

            Thanks again.

Well Lloyd, I have been a little lax with the fine design thread lately as I am in the middle of building our new house, but I am absolutely fascinated by design in all aspects.
That's why I was curious about your card stock.
Would love to see some of your other work.
