Currently I have 4 GB ddr3 ram and windows 7 32 bit. There's a feature that's known as readyboost in windows 7 that allows you to use pen drives as RAM. I have 2 pen drives [usb disks as they say] of 2GB capacity each.

So my question is, if i use both these pendrives as RAM via Readyboost, and installwindows 7 64 bit , will that readyboost make the total RAM nearly equal to 8 gb? nearly equal, so lets say at least 7 gb? I've heard a lot of good news about SU podium 64 bit being really fast, so that's why ๐Ÿ˜‰

From what I understand, that will indeed be the case. From what I've gathered, readyboost RAM is slower than normal RAM so it's not ideal, but it will give you that extra you need if your system doesn't have enough RAM. So it might not be as beneficial as you'd hope, but at the same time, I've not read anything that suggests it will hurt/slow things by using it.

I've tried it before but it's been a long time since I've run out of system RAM so I've sort of forgotten about this feature. I wonder how much USB 3.0 helps the speed issue.

No, Readyboost does not increase your effective RAM. It does act as a potentially faster disk cache (ie, faster than your HDD). If you don't know what a disk cache is, you should do some research to learn about it. So, it potentially increases performance of cached, non-sequential, file operations. There are numerous factors that will affect how well Readyboost does it's job. You should go the to MS website to learn more.

That would explain my readings that said that when an SSD is installed readyboost is disabled by default. I'm not real clear on how disk caching relates to rendering though. Is it possible that a renderer might use disk caching?
