Check out Google.com Home page today. It celebrates the 450th Anniversary of St. Basil's in Red Square. If you ever have the opportunity to go to Moscow, don't pass it up! And while you're at it, take the 3 hour train ride to St. Petersburg as well! Trip of a lifetime!

Here' s model of StB's that is on Display inside the Building. . .
-
That is made of chocolate right?
-
I thought it was guacamole and mozzarella.
-
I think I read that it was designed by an Italian!
Anssi

my son who was living there --and the reason for our trip was to pick him up--any he told us that (according to the his source) the czar was so thrilled with the design that when it was completed he had the architect's eyes put out so he couldn't possibly do anything as beautiful ever again. True? I dunno. . .but . . .
Don't you just love clients who really love your work?
By the way--the model--. . .it's fondant over chocolate cake. Served at the princess's wedding!

And marzipan. Get yer facts straight, Lay!
Edit, for clarity's sake: for some reason, I thought Eric was cracking a joke about the actual building.

That would be a fun challenge to model (or go insane trying).
David, the story of Ivan the Terrible blinding the architect/builder is a popular myth; researchers now believe the architect was Postnik Yakovlev, from Pskov, and he continued to design other buildings after the Tsar's death.

Thought so. . .Thanks for the correction. I am all about Popular Myths and UNpopular Myths.. . .Probably wasn't so Popular for the architect though.
-
It was good copy - I know the story is even mentioned in some history books I have. But, I guess with the fall of the USSR some old myths could be put to bed.
