While I was Googling for the address of the US visa office near the Pier Head in Liverpool, I came across this article which I thought might be of interest to those on the other side of the puddle. I already knew the facts around the title of this thread; that Liverpool built a number of Confederate blockade runners...and the fact that the very first US Consulate was opened in Liverpool (now a Sony store), but the rest of it is new to me.
