Yes, I saw that under it's original title. At first I thought he was after a spider that crawled out the HVAC, but it seems his Dad stuck a chocolate or something up there. Either way, it's pretty impressive.
The app looks quite useful too. I wonder what it's like for doing tutorials or Ruby demos on this forum?

The hits have gone up, so changing the subject worked.

I like animated gifs, because I can adjust the timing of individual frames for analytical viewing. I use "Microsoft GIF Animator" for that.

            Btw, it not me.

Reminds me of a doco I watched of Alain Roberts (spelling? - structure climber) his kid climbed a water pipe to the ceiling whilst in nappies!

Nice move by the Karate dude! Worrying thought to count on letting somemones foot get there first to do the move - if it was there with force your head might not be braining out the next move! Particularly if they had a few inches or more on you! I had the fortune before the earth cooled hanging few times at tournaments with Dolph Lundgren (sp?) when he was chem student in Sydney and we were both kyokushinki* fighters (+sp? again - way before the earth cooled) - his knee would hit fighters in the head from there! He's a GIANT! Lucky he was heavy weight and I didn't have to figure coping it! He was always so chilled before a fight - guess he knew his chances of getting belted in the head were little!

I agree animated Gif's are sweet! Thanks for the eyes up on apps to control speed - I'll have to give those a go!

                looks like Aikido.

That kid has some grip. You can see he almost lets his feet go completely. Technique is like coconut climbers but smooth.

I was going to say "somebody in that kid's family has picked coconuts."

In regard to the karate kick:

                  1. It is a cooperative demonstration where both know the target and the outcome. He kicks from the floor with a predictable trajectory. However, if you start with the knee only, you can get to your opponent in two ways. You can kick forward into the stomach or crotch or you can rotate your hip and kick to the head. If the opponent reacts early you just pick the undefended area. If he reacts late, you are already half way to the target before committing your self and the defender has lost half his reaction time.

Did you notice the old dude stepped on the young dude's foot so he could not hop away?

Yes, it is a demo of gif animation. ๐Ÿ™‚

The demo in the animation, is of a karate style that has deep roots in jujitsu, hence the aikido like technique. The key to the technique is the timing to intercept the kick by the body while the kicking leg is still bent. Doing so while advancing, mutes the kick, and unbalances the kicker. It is then a simple matter to hook the attacking leg. Actually, the point of the demo was to show how important it is to walk naturally, while focusing your attention behind the attacker, and not on the position of the kick itself.

The raw footage is from a video recorder filming at 30 fps. The animation plays back at 5 fps, providing the opportunity to take the technique apart. Until I animated the sequence, I had not noticed how the technique was executed. Martial arts training is such that you stumble through, eventually getting it by perseverance. Sometimes I think that its the stumbling that's important, not the technique itself.
