Google Chrome +/- (extensions?)
-
Hi all,
I am thinking about switching to Chrome from FF. Or at least try it out (I have had it for long of course).
Does anyone experienced with it have some serious cons?
Also, I am curious what extensions you find useful. -

I have a lot of tabs open(22) in it and sometimes it hogs a lot of resources, it really slows down the pc.

I have similar intentions to switch my browser. I used opensource Chromium (nearly identical to Chrome, but without Google's eyes) for long time and switched to FF, but FF4 is now crashing up to 5 times a day and I'm thinking to switch back (or to Opera which is ways faster than Chrome, but has other strange habits).
Some experiences:- Chrome is faster than FF in benchmarks
- Chrome lags less than Firefox in animations
- but in Chrome, scrolling can lag as long as a tab is loading in background.
- there are now equivalents for almost any Firefox addon (I only miss UnMHT, that creates one-file archives of websites).
- Firefox is more customizable (I liked to reduce and rearrange the menus to what I need/use).
- Chrome has the better web developer tools
- Chrome has the "nicer" advertisement videos by Google
Chrome is definitely pushed by Google, it's just a fast browser but not that fast as Google wants everyone to believe.

I'm using SRWare Iron, that basically is a Chrome mod. It lacks the one thing that kept me from using chrome before- it does not want to know everything about me... I heve been using it for two weeks now and I don't think I'll be going back. Love everything about it.

My FF4 is great. Hasn
t crashed once since I installed it. Maybe you should try re-installing it. I did try Chrome as well but it suddenly just stopped updating itself and I could not get it to work properly so I had to get rid of it. I always preferred FF anyway. As far as speed is concerned the difference between them is hardly noticeable now. It
s more down personal preferences and functionality. -
I have been using the Chrome browser for years, and I'm now using the Chrome OS which by all standards is the chrome browser. I use the Chrome Browser on my PC, and sync everything off of my Chromebook, so it keeps me up to speed on both systems.
The extensions I use for my workflow are:
Gmail Checker
URL Shortener
Google Voice Notifier
Google Reader Checker
ChromeAccess
+1 ButtonUsing the browser for so long made it a very simple transition to the OS. "Nothing but the Web" is the way everything is going, so I would highly recommend it.

Thanks guys for the comments. I have been able to find a couple of cool plugins although badly missing one that I have on FF; a quick (say one button/click - or even better: automatic) spell check switch between English and Hungarian (well, of course should work with any language). Currently it is such a pain to get there that it's not worth the time.

A true con in everyday work is the annoying "search" (ctrl+f), when switching to another tab the searchwindow disappears and you have to reactivate it, better solved in FF
But in the end Chrome made me forget FF pretty fast, espeacially the sync feature is fantastic, keeps all my pcs and mobiles up to date.
