      What is the problem???

I have been trying to use layers and then scenes, by the way I'm using a Mac. Whatever changes I make on my drawings and save as another layer or another scene ends up being the same for all the layers or scenes.

I tried to follow what is said in "SketchUp for dummies" and "SketchUp for Woodworkers" but something must be missing because I can not get different views for different layers or scenes.

What is the difference between layers and scenes?

        Hi, blake77:
In 25 words or less, I hope, no, not really.
Layers are what you assign components and groups to and control their visibility, among other things.
Scenes are used to save different camera views, layers visible or invisible or other features such as styles. You can actually save a series of scenes like frames for animation.
This is a simplified explanation, but you may see that there is more to it. And, of course, anyone else who would like to help may add their knowledge.
I hope this helps a little.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

As Mitcorb indicated, layers are used for controlling the visibility of components, groups, text and dimensions. They do nothing to separate entities from each other. Scenes are used to establish what amounts to snapshots of the model. So as mitcorb says, camera views (position, zoom angle of view), visible layers, styles, shadows, etc. If you move components or groups around, that will show in all scenes.

What exactly are you trying to do?

This might give you an idea or two.

I am trying to have different aspects of my projects represented. Such as have one view of the whole, then have one view of all of the parts separated, then with dimensions, one with the different sub groups, etc.

            Thanks

So just think of the Scenes you create as photographs or snap shots of your model. Assign layers to the parts of your model including dimensions. Organize them so you can turn unwanted layers off for each snap shot. Move the camera as needed and adjust the layer visibility to show just what you want to see. Then create a scene. Change to the next and repeat.
