+1 for Avast. It doesn't interfere with anything and it has a small footprint.

For a small fee* I use Symantec Norton 360, covers 3 PC's and keeps everything running smooth, Temporary file & Registry clean up and backup. Seems to work quite happily in the background without the performance loss I've had with some AV.
*Relative to the cost & downtime sorting out a virus or malware

I've been using AVG for years... It's undoubtedly an excellent AV app, but does need resources...
The day before yesterday I uninstalled AVG and installed MSE...
So far I'm really pleased... -
Gotta say MS has cleaned up it's act lately, I love windows 7, MSE, MS office 2010, however I'm a little dissapointed in IE9 (buggy at moment)

I have used the (IMO a bit expensive) Norton Internet Security and 360 products for years with no trouble.

Yeah, I'm really pleased how fast Win 7 is - startup, launching apps(love the right click menu on the apps in the taskbar)...I still use FF for browsing though

Thanks again all & I agree with MS products being better lately.
I have installed MSE on my home machine and on my daughters laptop. So far I like it. I will get my wife's machine updated after school lets out (she does not want me touching it until her grades are all posted just in case). Then I get to set up my new wireless router.

I like that MSE is actually finding some viri on my machine. e.g. MyDoom which was sent to me in an email at an attachment with the suspicious name of "renderplus.com.zip". (AVG hadn't reported any viri for a long time)
Unfortunately I had already deleted the email, (without knowing it had a virus attached), so I don't know who tried to send it.
