Mission Table
-
Here is another table I have just completed. With this one I remembered Dave
s advice about flipping components so did that with a few of the sections. Once again, I used a real wood texture instead of SU
s own for a better finish (I hope!). Some post processing done in Paint.Net to enhance the colours. And the X-Ray version -

Looking good. I'd like to see larger images and even the model if you wanted to share it.
-
The only thing that stands out to me is the front side of the table top. The grain would be an end grain texture not the top wrapped around it. -
Eric, you're right although it is possible to cut the top so the grain runs over edge like that. Unfortunately good end grain materials are harder to find than good face grain.

So true. Still a great table Goonster

Your model looks pretty good. If I may suggest a few changes...
Open the drawer components and apply the materials to the faces instead of to the components. don't get sloppy now.
Reduce the nesting on the drawer. You've got an extra layer of nesting which isn't needed. Look at the Outliner to get a clear idea of what's happening there.
As to the construction, I think for no bigger than the drawer is, you could get away with 12mm sides and back and the front could be 18 or 19mm.
Keep up the good work.
As to attaching your model, you can click on Upload Attachment at the bottom of the posting window and then upload it that way. Of course the 3D Warehouse works, too.

Good work Goonster
I agree with Dave's suggestion, follow them and you'll be ready to step up to the next level

For the nesting, select the top layer drawer component, right click and choose Explode That should leave you with a drawer component consisting of the front, two sides, back, bottom and pull.
And fix those materials. Also on the kickers and runners. Where's the finger wagging smilie?

I did apply them to the faces. At least I thought I did anyway. I had to scale and position the textures on each face.I know because I had display driver problems a few times while I was doing it.
The display driver stopped responding and has recovered' was the message I kept getting. Only ever happened when I was trying to scale and move/rotate the texture to fit a face. The one texture which definitely did need adjusting though was the one for the draw bottom. I have scaled that down a bit and it looks much better. Hang on - right I
m with you now!The textures on the side panels on the inside don`t match the outside. My mistake. Thanks for pointing that out.@dave r said:

With the nesting, I assume you are referring to the extra
Mission Table Draw'. I
m not sure how to fix this though. I can`t delete either or the draw is deleted. How is it done? The measurements I took directly from Luca
s plans. I didn
t want to change anything in case I screwed things up. I`ll have a go with your suggestion though. And thanks Luca. Practice makes perfect I guess - LOTS of practice!

I`m sure someone will invent one just for you!
I just figured that nobody would be interested in the inside where the parts are hidden. I`ll get them sorted.
And thanks for the tip on the nesting.Edit - I
ve had that driver prob twice more while trying to adjust the textures. It
s the rotating part that seems to cause the problems. Just moving them around is fine.Means having to start all over though. -
Dave the only reason the images are fairly small is that I use Shaderlight to render them but unfortunately the trial period finished some time ago so I am restricted to 640x480 size renders and I can
t really afford to upgrade to the full version . I have tried Kerkythea which is free but could not get on with it. I
ve downloaded it twice now but both times I end up uninstalling it. I think Shaderlight is OK for my needs at the moment though. As for sharing the model, I`m not sure how to upload it here but you can get it from my SU Warehouse page along with others I have built -

Thanks Boofredlay. Lets just say I found one of those good end grain pieces Dave was talking about.

Finally finished. I
ve deleted the old one and uploaded the new, improved, version to the 3DWarehouse. I
ve changed the link posted earlier so it should take you straight to the new one. Many thanks to Dave for the advice and to Luca for his excellent plans.
