A Thread for Fine Design
-
Well, dale:
Regarding selection of materials for the Chaise Lounge, I did not have an opinion, because with a sculpture background, I perceived that this was an exploration. As I said, the object is pleasing for its visual sensuality? whether or not anybody lounges on it.
How about women's high fashion clothing design? Some of those, a lady can't even sit down in, and certainly can't throw them in the washer.
I think this person is a good designer, with sensitivity and creativeness. Sometimes good design will venture well away from the path of pure function, and vice versa.I appreciate this thread, too. It certainly makes me think a lot.

I saw Jansen's piece on TED.com and was amazed, then. These examples are really "stepping out".

I have been following Theo Jansen's work for quite some time, and it is a real faux pas to have not included him in this thread. Thanks for correcting that.

A theater screen pulls down at the foot of the bed for viewing television or movies. An integrated personal computer system means you can work or surf the web in bed as well. Game consoles are built in for added entertainment value. Lights for reading and shades for sleeping are also fully integrated. Seriously cool.
Sure you find something you like, then you look at the price...(42,000 euro, 56,615 US)

The Pikasso Designed and Built for Pat MethenyDale, this guitar idea was possibly inspired by the Resonant Chamber from Animusic.

That is freaking amazing!
I want to build one. -
I know right!
I got the Animusic and Animusic 2 DVD's a couple years ago and unfortunately loaned them to someone who does not ever remember me doing so
Well when Animusic 3 comes out I will probably get all three. Most of the videos are on Youtube however. Check out Starship Groove and Heavy Light. Amazing stuff. Not to mention Pipe Dream.

A hard act to follow, so I better get back on the horse.

Those chairs (last image) look uncomfortable and very wobbly, a case of form and no function IMO.

I thought I had noted as part of the post,(but I didn't), that this is a child's playset, designed for space saving. That is what drew me to it in the first place.
Sorry about that, I'm going to claim senility.( now... what was I saying) -
Maybe not really fine design, but quirky, and looks a little better than that old chunk of wood. Foot in the Door by Liz Dubois, Anthony Petrie (sorry no URL ?)
