Could the Nokia N8 be a serious iPhone challenger?
-
Hi Guys,
I spent some time this morning checking out the Nokia N8 http://events.nokia.com/NokiaN8/ for my daughter this morning. She is making up her mind between an iPhone 4 and the new Nokia N8. She is going to Oz for a year soon and is into photography. I just want to be able to stay in touch with her (sob)! She thinks the N8 might suit her needs better than the iPhone. Its also a lot cheaper
Have you any opinion?
Mike
PS: Can anyone figure out if it does 'picture in picture' video calls. This would be important!

Yep, Its has two cameras,
'There are two cameras on the N8, there is a front-facing camera which is there for video calls and a rear facing camera for high quality photo and video capture, this rear facing camera has a 12.0 megapixel sensor which uses Carl Zeiss optics, in this article we will look at this camera in detail.'
12 MEGAPIXELS Wow!

It's quite interesting phone. Had a change to play it a while ago - no complaints. Keeping the limits of used fixed optics in mid, I think it's one of the first phones that can be really used as a pocked camera (in daylight or well light interiors).

I'll wait a year till Canon comes out with Camera/phone, or when Nokia adds a flash to next years model

I think N8 flash is actually fairly usable. But I would not try to illuminate a whole room with that

Nokia is raising the bar it seems. Not only do phones now need to have a camera but a GOOD camera and myriad of other uses.
I have the original, or late original iPhone. I usually don't use it for anything but occasionally as a phone, but check email when away for a few days. But if phones are supposed to do everything, I'll want one that will brush my teeth and comb my hair for me. That would would be a REAL phone IMO.

For me a twin bell alarm clock and a shaver too
btw there seems to be some new Nokia models released just now [1] and [2], but they camera might not be as good as in N8 ('just' 8 magapixels).
