My wife and I were staying up 4 Mile Canyon at Boulder Mountain Lodge. It was a beautiful setting, with a long history. I have been trying to find out if it was affected by the fire, but no luck so far. WE are really saddened, as they were wonderful folks who ran the lodge.

I was in just north of there on Monday, in Lefthand Canyon, and ash was coming down from the sky like light snow.

I believe Fourmile is on the other side of the ridge in this photo, that I took from Route 36 that afternoon.

I just read an article indicating that they expect to have the fire totally contained by Monday or Tuesday. I notice the latest map from Boulder OEM shows a smaller area than they were before.

              Hi folks.

Finally back from vacation and trying to find a few minutes away from work to give my impressions.

First: it was as interesting as the previous Basecamp (2008) to meet and remeet other SU's enthousiasts and SCF members as well as Google SU team members. Boulder is an excellent choice and the lodging, close to the unconference site, was also an excellent idea.

The unconference idea turned out to be a viable experience. However, as expressed by a few others, it would have been a better idea to do the preparation session on day one to get more time on day 2 for the unconferences. Day 3 should also have been a full day.

Second: having more than one unconference going on at the same time in the same room created some distracting noises. I agree that finding a building with 12 conference rooms is not that obvious but, maybe a school could be used, during the summer.

Third: not having videos is a bit disapointing since a lot can be taken from movies. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words, a movie is worth a thousand pictures and a movie about 3D stuff is worth ... OK, you get the point.

              Just ideas.

                Jean, all good points.

It was a pleasure "hanging out" with you and the other fellows at the Baker Street Bar and Grill.

yeah ditto on the insomnia! I had a great time Boulder was definitely a best first basecamp for me to attend as its smaller size and local bar made it easier to socialize even though my hotel was a 15 min walk away. Not sure if I would like to do a basecamp in California in 2012 rather than Boulder again but who knows? I had hoped they would do one in 2011 although I dont think thats going to happen.
