      Hello!
As a native german speaker from Dortmund in western part of Germany, i try to remember my good old school english πŸ˜„ So please be lenient toward me.
I hope, this is only a newbie question.
      I've installed Sketchup Ver.7.1.6860 with Sketchyphysics 3.
When i try to connect a hinge (grouped with a cylinder) with a box via joint connect, the two parts are still disconnected.
And yes, i press the left ctrl-button (and the right ctrl- and the left alt- and the shift-button and...) to select the second part.
In a drawing from google warehouse are some tyres connected to a body. If i open the Sketchyphysics inspector, i see how parts are normally connected.
But not in my drawing (see attachement).
So, do you know how to connect the two parts?
      With best regards
      Mathias

It's been happening to me quite often recently or at least something similar:

When i connect the joints (or at least try to), the cursor will appear normal, and I am unable to connect anything even with a ctrl+left click. ❓ Try looking at the ruby console.

I'm a Sketchup Free user, nothing else. 3DS is way too expensive, and Pro, ditto. What else do you expect?

UPDATE: I have some blender knowledge, that is why this signature is edited.

So, that's what why my Ruby console tell me (me):

          (pressing joint select button)
          onSelectionCleared
          Inspecting model for errors

          (selecting hinge)
          onSelectionCleared
          onSelectionAdded
          onSelectionBulkChange1
          Webdialog set to#Sketchup::Group:0x6962588

          (selecting box with left ctrl-button)
          onSelectionCleared
          onSelectionAdded
          onSelectionBulkChange1
          Webdialog set to#Sketchup::Group:0x684afd0

Hmmmm! There is no onSelectJointConnecting or something like that.

If you have SP3, you can revert to Sketchyphysics 2, make a model there, cut it, set it back to Sketchyphysics 3, and paste it there.

            Worked for me πŸ˜„

did you say you connected the joint to the body then group it with the wheel and join.

              simply:

              • group wheel and join together
              • select join connector tool
              • connect the join to the other object.

this should work/solve your problem of the joint connector not working. because you proberbly think that the join is already connected before you group it, however when you group it it removes the connection (if you understand, cus to me it seems im not explaining it right)

If you can read this, thank a teacher.
If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.

Well, I just think the computer is normal again. I removed Spyware doctor when I saw the installer for Windows Defender, and I think it saved the load on the computer. It had nothing to do with groups, as it could already connect to non-grouped objects. i no longer have to import from SP2! WOOHOO! β˜€ πŸ˜„ πŸŽ‰
