Wood Question
-
My father sent me this today so I thought I would ask here.

Do you know of any woodworking forums that I could query?
I bought an item at Thursday's "Art Stroll" on the courthouse square, and the seller said it was made of "curari" wood. I wondered if it was related to the "curare" poison used in Amazon tribes' blowgun darts, but she didn't know. When I got home, I did a Google search on "curari" and got thousands of hits, most all about "curare" poison, made from plants of the genus Strychnos toxifera, but I found nothing about wood of a similar name.
I searched my Popular Woodworking links, but found none to which I could ask such a question.

Lumberjocksis really active, I bet you'll get a good response there.

Woodweb.com is pretty good.

Eric,
I'd second LumberJocks. Any chance you can get a photo of the piece he bought? There are a lot of wood species these days that are known by several names. Sometimes woods are given made up names by people selling it to make them seem more exotic. I've forgotten the name that it was given but there is a wholesaler of lumber that sells willow boards under some other name so people would buy it. Willow is soft and stringy and is consider by most woodworkers as not worth anything for furniture.
