Handrail for spiral stairs
-
Which plugins and which methods would permit me to model a simple handrail for the spiral stairs shown attached here. I use both Google Sketchup and Chief Architect software. Chief permits me to import a Google SU model into it directly.
The model seen was done using Chief Architect.
I am thinking that Fredo's excellent Bezier Spline and Curviloft plugins may be the ticket. I saw a reference to a plugin named "Grow" in the thread about CurviLoft, but cannot find a plugin named "Grow."
Can someone give me a little push?

Make a spring, adjust it to fit ur degree of step ,make the profile of the hand rail and use the follow and keep plugin.

Well, that sounds easier, but how does one make a spring?

U just need the spiral made by lines, then use the follow me and keep plugin and there u go!

Hi Gene,
the simplest and easiest way to make a spiral stair wit a hand rail ist to use Grow. First determine the dimensions and the design of one step and make it a component including the partly hand rail and than use Grow.
For the hand rail you may use curviloft, or any pipe ruby or anything else. The hand rail in the first image was made by curviloft and the second with curviloft and convert arcs to cylinders. For Grow.rb look at this thread:
