What are those file types for?

.igs or .iges are International Graphics Exchange Specification which is the generic standard for 2D and 3D graphics. A file in the IGES format should be able to be read by any 2D or 3D CAD program. While I understand SU is not technically a CAD program, it is being used as and touted to be able to work as one. However, it does not read .igs or .iges file formats. I would hope someone out there has done a Ruby script or some other program to pull that format into SU.

SU will do skp2dxf, then you require a 3d party converter for dxf2igs. If you "google" the second, you will find translators.

If I'm right, ahandrew wants to import IGES in SU, not export...

SU and IGES are'nt in the same 3D world... 😉
Iges can discribe nurbs, cuves and other 3D free forms, and SU only knows polygons. Importing IGES file means solving all free surfaces to polygons 😞
I use to manipulate this kind of files and I use MoI3D as portal between these two worlds.

                Thanks for all the help.

I found a plugin that will import (or export) .igs (.iges) files located at http://www.sycode.com/products. The plugin costs $95 ($125 with update service) for import and the same for export. It seems to work pretty well. There is a trial version that I downloaded and ran some .igs files through. It seemed to do quite well.

PS: I am new a SketchUcation. How do I stop or delete a topic in the forum?
