A few weeks ago on a rainy Saturday afternoon, I doodled out this colonial-style tavern table based on the drawing you can see if the background.

The other day I changed the legs to ones with a barley twist detail. It might not be proper for the period--I don't know--but I kind of like it this way.

Very nice drawings Dave! I prefer the legs of the first image and, most of all, I like the idea of displaying the plan on the background. How did you do that?

          Hi Luca.

          Thank you.

To display the plan, I just imported it as an image and stood it up behind the table. Actually, I often import an image like that so that I can refer to it without switching windows or printing it out. Sometimes there are details I can or need to trace but in this case, the drawing wasn't very useful in that way. Nothing in it is drawn to scale and the proportions are distorted so it I drew it all without tracing anything.

Dave - great looking table - any tips on doing the barley twist legs - they are popular as kitchen posts in freestanding kitchen pieces. I'm sure they are pretty high poly?

              Thanks Dermot.

As to tips on drawing the barley twist, you might take a look at this.

As to high-poly, they are but they aren't anywhere near as high-poly as they might have been. The way I made them it is a cinch to change the length of the twisted portion and for that matter the entire length of the legs.

I was supposing that. It's a good idea to import an image file when you need it for a drawing.
I'm sure I'm going to use that technique. πŸ‘
