News that our souls need

religion tears our world apart. forget it and you'll be free. why dwell on it? life's too short.
-
why dwell on it?
well it depends whether you have been taught in it or not.
If you have been, you doubt. And thus you have to dwell on it. You have to re_ teach yourself. If life were too short as you say you would have then a huge advantage over the others.)_ and that is not fair, so life must be longer than you think...)_

Don't totally agree with Oli on his statement that religion tears our world apart. Of course the extremes do, but that goes for other extremes as well. For example, extreme greed has terrible effects (exploitation of humans and natural resources), but there's nothing wrong with striving for financial independence. Same goes for religion I feel. Extremism leads to wars and social conflict, but that doesn't mean that anyone who practices a certain religion is contributing to the nasty side-effects.
I don't mind people who practice a religion, no matter which religion it is, as long as they don't bore me to tears with it. I'm interested as a bystander but refuse to be part of it. I also have a friend who collects stamps and I'm ok with him telling me how he found some rare specimen every now and then, but he knows better than to try and convince me to start collecting too. And back to religion again, among my friends are muslims, hindus, christians and jews, and just like the stampcollector we sometimes discuss certain aspects of their faith, but that's as far as it goes.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that as long as the practice of religion is undertaken in the same way a normal hobby is, by all means pray, chant, hug, share, and have a good time
There's other issues of course like abortion, euthanasia, curcimcision (did I spell that ok?), male-female equality etc etc. From my personal experience though, these are largely cultural phenomena falsely linked as being part of a certain religion per se.
My 2 cents
-
right, ._)
common sense and let life liveNevertheless I think that about abortion, euthanasia, curcimcision, male-female equality etc, they are not falsely linked as being part of a certain religion. In fact they are "inside" the Books of the Churches, for they tried to regulate what you call, and I agree, largely cultural phenomena, still finding its understandings.
cheers

True true, these issues are 'adressed' in the books. However, the thing that makes religious texts both great and terrible is the fact that they're very susceptible to interpretation. My friend Mohammed for example says that according to the teachings of the Islam every person who is of another faith should be considered a threat (rest assured, he's not intent on exterminating us ). My other friend Ibrahim reads, and lives by, the same book but believes that the Qur'an tells him to love and respect every living thing, regardless of religious or cultural beliefs. Most of the things I adressed are viewed differently by people/groups within the same religion (with, as far as I know, the exception of circumcision in the Jewish religion. I have never met a practicing jew opposed to circumcision).
I believe that none of the 'mainstream' religious texts are specific enough for anyone to base a strict set of rules on. Interpreting them involves a mix of personal beliefs and values, cultural/geographical background and the ideas of the people who taught you.
All based on my personal experience from talking to people both in my own surroundings and on my travels. I'm not saying that this is the way it is. Just another case of personal interpretation I suppose
And indeed, as you sort of said; live and let live.
P.S. I consider myself to be pretty eloquent in English for a Dutchy, but damn it's hard to achieve the nuances when you're not using your native language

( indeed it is, )

didn't mean to cause any provocation. let me put it this way.
work hard, play hard and love your woman!
just enjoy life, you'll never find the answers you are looking for.
-
sometimes life becomes hard to enjoy,
because life hurts as well.
There must be a reason on it that we know inside but we still ask for we do not fully understand it.
But I think one is able to get to understand all the questions that one is looking for.
I mean, why not ?cheers

Or just enjoy life, you'll find the answers you are looking for?
Seriously, Oli, you seem to wipe out a lot of human experience & thought with a wide eraser cursor. Perhaps I misunderstand...

for sure , my note is not a "new"s (news) but also you finally may agree that there are "few" "new"s on this planet...........I was only able to see the vimeo film,(as youtube is banned..etc) and there are interesting attentionable, and also some +/- issues, as any other "game" that we "players" paly on this planet, this is also a "game" (taking apart religions, doing meditations etc etc...(as a long term believer and then a meditator/healer )... here I'm not going to dig any argument, (also bkz am too lazy) and also you maybe as lazy as I am to put all of these sort of "leading"s apart.BTW my interesting treasure (that is rather old, but guess not recognised enough) is Thaddeous's book : http://freespace.virgin.net/sarah.peter.nelson/lazyman/lazyman.html
it gave me a clear vision, (during my past10-12 years), seems too easy and maybe shallow at a glance , but it really is inspiring for me until today. so let's be aware of our games , and just love ourselves... -
thankyou majid,
yes, lazyness is one on me too.
I help myself to read the texts you provide, with Free Natural Reader,
http://www.naturalreaders.com/I have picked up the basic attitudes from chapter 4,
No resistance : Be free in your head, act out of love, and do what feels good.
Love as much as you can from wherever you are : You may not want to love what you feel or see, you may not be able to convince yourself that you could love it at all. But just decide to love it
Love it the way it is. : You take yourself with you wherever you go. As they say in Zen: if you can't find it where you're standing, where do you expect to wander in search of it?Love yourself : Play a happy tune and happy dancers will join your trip.
Lazy now to keep on reading the rest,
I like very much this : If we "listen" to the world, and let it act on us without either-or judgments and ideas, then we can learn to comprehend each flash of pleasure as a tone in the infinite harmony. The orchestra of the world plays the familiar melodies again and again, and the old folks stand around and tap their feet while the young ones dance.
thanks again
-
mate that you've enjoyed it, as this is prepared for lazymen (kidding) like me, so if you anjoyed it too, just take it easy and read on your pleasure , hope you find it inspiring, as I did

Yeah I think you have misunderstood me. No matter how much we debate religion/existence nobody is any the wiser...thats why I say "why dwell on it"... a frustrating pursuit of answers.
-
nobody is the wiser,
correct assertion
( Oli, I think that there can be another point of view, in that correct assert
instead of frustating pursuit of answers,
exciting pursue of answers in both fields, existencial and talking about religion. This way, again, is much better, why not ? ) -
