Need plant image
-
Looking for a good png plant like this. Anyone know where i can find this image?

I'd suggest running a search for silk or artificial plants. They are often shown against a white background which is relatively easy to remove. Stuff like this.

Good tip Alan. I never thought of that.

A quick attempt (not the best quality/resolution however)

If you have something like Photo Zoom, it makes sense to blow the image up really large first. Something like the attached is much easier to cut out than the original image.

Thanks Alan,
I'll put my limited photoshop skills to work.

The best way of dealing with this kind of stuff in Photoshop is as follows:-
Open the large png file above in PS then select the background with the Magic Wand, set to a tolerance around 100....and with Contigious unchecked.
Flood fill the background you have just selected with a similar leaf green...tolerance set to around 150....also with Contigious unchecked. This ought to be enough for the fill to just ever-so-slightly bleed over the selection and cover any half-green/half-white pixels around the edges of the leaves...so you don't end up with a nasty halo effect.
Use the Background Eraser to punch a hole in the now green background and hit Delete.
Crop and resample the image to maybe 800 pixels high.Another useful freebie I have found is Png Optimizer. It not only reduces the size of your transparent pngs, but ensures that the transparent background is fully transparent...and you're not left with a ghost of what was previously there.
The result of all this is below.

In Gimp I just went to Layers > Transparency > Color to alpha (the default is white anyway) and with that single click it turned it into a transparent background.
Certainly you can rarely have such luck to have the background completely white (or any single colour). -
Thanks again Alan, Gaieus this will come in handy.
