Yeah, it must be a local thing. Although the Chinese gov't was my first thought as well in light of recent accusations.

Over the last month or so, I have found that Gmail has become very slow to respond - so much so that I opened a Hotmail account (shudder) as a fallback.Trouble is, that I have been on Gmail since day one and I have several GB of archived material there and I am loathe to change.
The slowdown has also afflicted other parts of the Google machine at times but Gmail is the primary sufferer.

Hm. Interesting. I also use Gmail (even for collecting my emails from other accounts) and have not noticed any slowdown at all...

I have noticed any slow down at all of any Google service.
But I did have problems where I tried to donwload Google Earth and I could only get the Spanish page.

But you also know that Google screws up its language redirects time to time - as was the case with the SU pages recently.

This was no slow-down - services were simply not available. The only sites I had trouble with were gmail, google reader, and google groups. Everywhere else was working fine.
