Face Me Components always face the camera... but depending on their angle of the sun in relation to the camera, their shadow will get VERY THIN, which is very weird specially for objects like trees.

I wonder if there is a possible way to select a FACE ME OBJECT and through a plugin, create a "face sun" object, in the exact same spot, but which would be invisible, only its sun appearing.

That way, the object facing the sun would create a proper shadow while the face me object would be the one visible.

I see... the problem then is with VRAY...

(I never use shadows inside Sketchup... thats why I didnt know the shadows indeed faced the sun, although I always checked that checkbox)

So... again... the problem is with VRAY... that same picture you showed, when rendered in VRAY, would produce a very thin shadow.

Thus, the necessity to create a component FACING THE SUN so it can be rendered (only the shadow) in VRAY.

hmm... well, thatn it becomes a V-Ray feature request. As it is now, the only way to make something create a shadow is if it's visible.
So you either want VfSU to understand face-me components and apply the same shadow trick as SU, or have an option to hide an object from camera, whilst still casting shadow.
Not something a ruby can fix.

If all of your faceme objets have shadows that fall onto a flat surfaces (vs. hitting walls, steps, etc.) then maybe you could make a dynamic component with two sub components. One sub-component is the face me object and it faces the camera. The other sub-component is a fake shadow. It is the same object but with translucent gray fill and it is on the ground. Then this would be set to face the sun vs. camera, and ideally would set the length of this to scale based on the hight of the sun angle.

Maybe an alternative is to swap out your face me objects for real 3d objects just before exporting to Vray. If you don't like the look of these 3d objects you could always make a duplicate rendering with your faceme components and layer in Photoshop to mask these back in. You would just have to make sure the faceme objects are slightly larger than the 3d objects, and you run into issues of seeing the same object from multiple views, don't know how Vray deals with that and faceme objects.
