I just ran across this and figured that someone here would find it as fascinating as I did. The image is a sample from the web page that has more pictures, discussion of the history of the project, and links to discussions of the math.

This programm alow you to add STL file format and "Displacement Map"
(section Special BaseShapes)
3072*3072 in Free version (Go to DeviantArt and write Incendia in the search engine
Rendering don't work on my old computer (crash) but works fine on actual machine!
