The earliest coin I've found was from Claudius. That was also really nice (and big - later coins tend to get smaller and smaller)

I thought it was a good idea to bring here coins and paintings or what else of Rome's ancient monuments. You can find a lot of them in that flickr's group. I remember seeing the Colosseum with medallions in a coin.

          Edit: Another one:

I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but why is the Temple of Vespasian I made for my M.S. thesis transferred in to Google Sketchup? I'm fine with it, but I'm rather surprised. (see link - http://www.ancientsites.com/aw/Article/862364). He did improve it some, but the exact metrics are still there. The Roman Forum he built was, I see, my work, that he re-edited the buildings (and did a better job) from the framework I had. I used vrml and built it back in 2003 to 2006. I do like that he improved it and shared it with the public (I'm not a greedy intellectual hoarder), but I kind of feel like he took it to have everybody praise him as the complete genius of this. I would have liked to have had some credit early on.

Whether it's a matter of copyright or of accurate referencing, I don't think that Z-Akh69 or L.VII.C had bad intentions. It's usual to set value on accurate quoting/referencing in scientific circles, but not so much in a hobbyist context. However no 3d work (SketchUp files) has been posted here only 2d previews, so it's hard to judge.

I'm very confident that Z-Akh69 or L.VII.C would add references if you wish so (at the moment they haven't been around here, and this thread was rather quiet).

Hello, I use ancient reference for building my temple of vespasian. It's a very hard work...I have a new version for now but not already finish for the moment. Here some screen of my work -

I don't want to give my reference. It's a long job with many calculs and i'm working on this projet since august 2010...

After a long pause I've constructed the new shared model - the palace of Diocletian. The main improvements are new colums, pilasters and orders.
                    Some simple renders:

It would be incredible to visit them in a game engine like Cryengine or Unreal... at least part of it (I understand if you want to make profit of your models and don't want to release them for free).

Why it would be incredible? Of course I have some commercial projects now and looking for more, but in a free time I still working with free models. For example, this years I plan to present a model of baths of Diocletian and integrate baths of Caracalla, baths of Diocletian and palace of Diocletian in a game engine like OpenSpace3D or Cryengine, and it will be in free use. as for website, it was created just for making the historical 3D reconstruction more popular.

Of course, just like always! I'm planning to release the palace of Diocletian with new interiors and a game integration of it approximately in summer. As for baths of Diocletian, it's very big project, and I want to do them much better than baths of Caracalla. The estimated release date for it - the end of December

                                  Great panoramas!

By the way, Danik, do better not add all panoramas to one single page, having so maaany Flash Player instances (all downloading megapixel images) makes the browser slow or unstable.
I often distribute them over subpages, or I enable the flash only when the user clicks it.
If you know some javascript, you can take a look at this page, I set the flash object to %(#000000)[style="display:none"] and %(#000000)[src=""], and %(#000000)[onclick="var pano = this.childNodes[1].childNodes[11]; pano.parentNode.style.display='inline'; pano.src = 'http://www.you3dview.com/viewer/viewer.swf?xml=http://www.you3dview.com/flvideo/226/viewer.xml'"]

                                    Hi Aerilius,
Thanks a lot for this advice, i'll surely investigate it!
Actually I want to increase the quality of my panorama pictures. When I constructing panorama in Kerkythea using spherical mode the top of the view (above the viewpoint) has some distortions, as in the attached picture. Could you please tell hoy you resolve this problem?
Also, your renderings are of good sharpness, but my renderings are rather fuzzy. Could you please tell what settings do you use to achieve such quality?

Hi to all. I've made the first video for palace of Diocletian. Gaieus, I tried to reduce scenes time as you said. I plan to add new interiors to it this summer, and then to create new video with improved textures, fountain animations etc.

Aerilius, please reply on my questions if you have a time 😄
