Bing vs Google

More results does not mean better results, I find Google search has more crap than fact in it's results.
IIRC sites can be built/worded in such a manner that they will be pulled up by a search engine even though they may have little to do with what you were actually searching for - like the sites that when you Googled "stupid" (or whatever the word was) and it pulled up then President George Bush's webpage first.
Wait until these same people figure out how to make Bing pull up their junk first too, and then it'll be just like Google.

Seems like everyone likes to Vilify Bill Gates...compare him to say Steve Jobs...they both have these huge empires yet Steve who is more aggressive gets passed on frequently and Bill who does so much philanthropic work is the devil
I completely agree. I work with 2 Mac evangelist fundamentalists. It really is like a religion that they follow regardless, and can't see any of the hipocrasy or inconsistencies in their leaders "think different" teachings. Part of their religion is to deride every pc user they meet. They think of themselves as great pioneers of freedom, "I don't want any part of microsofts evil empire, blah... blah... blah..." Snore. Obviously, like all evangelists as opposed to the moderates, they aren't doing anything that in any way credits using a mac over a pc, apart from loving it when people in cafes say "ooh nice computer".

Apple has done wonders for its image, kudos to their marketing department. Having a very stable, modestly powerful, well thought out platform helps a lot too.
Just like you said though, Apple is still, by far, the most tight fisted of the two.
Why does Apple look better? 1) Oooh, shiny! 2) They didn't release Win2K, WinME, Vista, or any other operating system that had to get massive patches (service packs) or fixes for big security loopholes. Couple #2 with people forking out hundreds of dollars for a supposedly new-and-better operating system, and that makes for a bad rap.

You seem to have made this a Mac vs PC thing, I was talking about Bill Gates, not the Microsoft operating system.
Another thing, why do folks always mention the hardware appearance of a Mac when comparing Windows which is an operating system? Is the Mac OS not strong enough to stand on it's own so needs to be reinforced by the sleek appearance of it's hardware to cement it's superiority?
How many folk would be here today (on forum using a personal computer) if it was not for Windows 95?Anyway, this is a no win debate, about as win-able as a Republican vs Democrat debate in the states, however I do believe one learns from ones mistakes and think Windows 7 will bear the fruits of many exagerated mistakes.

Sorry I wasn't trying to make this a mac vs pc argument as I have no particular preference anyway, but I do find that very few mac users can actually explain their choice without mentioning how good their machine looks, which I suppose, if you are sat at it everyday, has some value.
Good point on the hardware, Jobs says he will never allow OSX to run on another machine and anybody running linux on a mac is breaking the law. So his practices are much more restrictive than Mr Gates.
Sorry, back at the point, just BingGoogled my name and home town. Bing listed at the top a link to the old sketchup beta forum, a dead link that is at least 5 years old, the rest were irrelevant. But I do have a fairly common name. Google listed at the top a link to my profile and portfolio on a current freelancers website, second link was also related and current.

I just makes my chuckle to imagine how many brain-storming sessions and millions of $$$ MS spent coming up with a name which people will exchange for the verb "to Google".
"This is driving me crazy, I can't find that restaurant phone number and I've been binging away all morning!"

binging? sounds vulgar
-
I dunno. . .Bing just feels a little old school for me. . .and yet. . .friendly and Familiar . Ba ba ba ba boo... ba ba ba bababoo
-
David, you just gave me some great Christmas memories of when I was a kid, Bing Crosby still has the best Christmas album ever.

Christmas just ain't Christmas with Der Bingle!

the image search is definitely an improvement over google.. haven't used it enough to feel out any real pos/negs..
mac users will need something like:
http://www.machangout.com/..in order to get bing (or other) as your default engine in safari because only google is built in..
