Animation - Identity Nightclub/Ultra lounge
-
This is an animation for my senior interior design project. It was a nightclub/ultra lounge called Identity, and the concept was created by the desire to help extend the "shelf-life" of nightclub design, because the turn over rate for nightclubs can be extremely high. I attempted to accomplish this by having multi-ranked V.I.P. levels, RGB color changing light effects throughout, large projection screens over the dance floor to allow for an unlimited range of graphics and effects to create the atmosphere of the club, and many other features. I wanted visitors to be able to feel a "brand new experience" each time the come to the club.
This process began back in september with a senior thesis paper that required extensive research and then turned in to a student project. We had to find a site for the project, and go through all the phases of a design project...we had to bubble diagram, develop a concept, space plan, have a fairly complete set of construction documents, specify all of our products and furniture, and do many of the other tasks that go into an Interior design project. We just had our presentations the other night and that phase of the project was very important to me so I decided to do an animation that would help market the project and nightclub. It was a very long school year and is bitter/sweet to see it come to an end, but I am definitely ready to try and enter the work world full time. I hope you all enjoy this and as always, comments and critiques are welcome and greatly appreciated. (watch in hi-quality for best viewing and I will be posting some still renderings as soon as I can)

Great stuff. Love the camera work. Reminds me of Tim Burton's camera moves - and that IS a compliment. Really slick presentation that works to sell your concept, and is absolutely appropriate to the subject matter. Nice one

Im having trouble thinking of an appropriately powerful superlative to use, suffice to say that was very good.
The best animation i've seen form SU.

A++ work Steelers05 - I hope the instructors grading your senior project felt the same way!
This is very good on so many levels - you are a very talented guy. Congratulations on your graduation - you should do well with this in your portfolio. Where do/did you go to school, and what field of study are you graduating from?
Again - Fantastic Work!

Thank you all for the kinda words...I would have never been able to put something like this together without this community and I thank u for that. I am glad to see that many of you like the design as well as the animation, because there was a lot of work that went into the concept and design decisions as well.
teo: this was all SU + Vray and then your right...it was composited together in After Effects. Im not gonna lie, there was a lot of post process that needed to be done in order to get the concept across and working with SU to get the animation was a struggle at times, but I wanted to try and prove that SU can be used for animation...even with the poly count and camera limitations. Dont get me wrong, its is not at the level of 3d max and I think we all need to beg and plead for the SU guys to improve upon this and I hope that animations like this will show them how much the program is capable of if they would just change/add some features and get serious about SU being a competetive program next to 3d max and others.
Solo: I wish...it is still an unoccupied site. Maybe I could pitch this idea and get something done...haha . Did I fail to mention that budget was not part of the project so Im imagining that the lighting I used would cost a fortune...oH well
prince: Ill take that as a compliment?
bytor: I am graduating from La Roche College with a degree in Interior Design. It is a small school in Pittsburgh, PA, but they are well recognized for design and art and the program is FIDER accredited which helps us graduates a lot.
Frederik: I used vray
Stefanq & Mateo: Ill take that as a compliment as well...right?
Everyone else, thank you for all the feedback. It is greatly appreciated, and hopefully this will be the first of many animations I will be able to share with you guys.

Do you spend much time in clubs like that?
Being a non-drinker/non-clubber, I don't have much experience in any bar/club, but its interesting to me from a social aspect.
I am familiar with the old pub - Cheers style. And TV and movies often display these types of hyper-flourescent rave-esque clubs (notice all my exposure is through tv - lol). Do most regular people find themselves in a club like this regularly? Monthly? Weekly? Being inexperienced as I am, it just looks intimidating to me.
But very well modeled and rendered! The neon and the plasma - excellent job!

Steelers05,
I know the school well - I am an 87 Interior Design grad of AIP. I wish our firm was hiring right now - because I would get you an interview in a minute. We have an office in the Frick building, but I work from our home office about 100 miles east of you. I was in the burg Saturday to pick my son up from his freshman year at Pitt - weather was warm and things were looking good!
Good luck in your job hunt - your keen eye and presentation skills should help to set you apart from the other talent!
