Mate i'm just checking out shadermap now and it's sweet for $20 and the functionality is well above that of crazybump.

Yes, $20 seems to be a very reasonable price.

I've got a free day (that's my new term for being unemployed) on Wed or Thurs so I'm going to commit a day to getting up to speed on maps. I'll try both of them then.

There doesn't seem to be any difference between the Pro Demo and the licensed version of ShaderMap.

Nice find, indeed! Considering my own knowledge and talents in texture creation and rendering in general, even if ShaderMap is not as good as CrazyBump,it won't make any difference really. 😍

Mate the demo doesn't allow saving of the results for testing, so it's pretty hard to determine which produces the best result. Though at $20 v's $300 for crazybump the result is right there!

$300! Ouch! My eye saw the phrase Volume Discounts and assumed the price for one license of CrazyBump was $99. $300 takes it off the list! That's just silly for a minor application like this. You can get Photoshop on eBay for $379.

Pixplant is another consideration. It's still not cheap, but at Β£175 it's only just over half the price of CrazyBump, has a very smilar interface and probably more features. It doesn't have all that irritating 'puny human' nonsense either.

What' the difference between the Pro and the Pro-Demo versions of ShaderMap? I haven't downloaded/installed it yet. It says there's some limitation but does it mean I won't be able to se the whole/full capabilities of the licensed Pro version?

If it works, I'd gladly pay the price but certainly it would be nice to try out first.

Ya got to read the whole thread mate! Cant save from it so you cant test results! If you know how to tell a good normal map from bad just by looking at it, you're good! I've got to test them!

Nay, that suck***s. How can one tell if i's good then? At least they should give a chance to save at a lower resolution (say 512 pixels could already give you some clue).

Sigh... I guess I'll have to try anyway as I do need something and although you can never make it sure, it still looks promising.

See you in the gallery! πŸ‘Š

Mate have you tried Nvidia's plugin for PS CS3? It's free and does a pretty good job!

I don't have PS CS3 so I haven't. But never mind, I can spare those few bucks for this app I believe πŸ˜‰
