File Exporting SU7 Free
-
You need a seperate login for the extensions index/tutorials bit of the site.
As for the plugin not installing, in what sense is it not installing?
-
I didn't know about the other scripts for .obj exports. Thanks.

Your saying I need a NEW user name and password to get access to another part of the forum?
Thats crazy! I don't think I would do it---- just on principle!.(It was bad enough that I had to create a brand new individual password simply for this site in the first place)The .obj plugin is there, installed, but it does nothing.(It's there on the Plugin dropdown)
Perhaps someone who has actually got it to work in the free version of SketchUP may have some installing instructions differing from those provided.Sorry if I sound grumpy but it all seems messier than I am used to.
Thanks

I know what you mean, it is a bit annoying having 2 logins for the forum and the site. I believe it is to do with the fact that the site is run using wordpress and the forum phpBB. 2 separate systems 2 separate logins.
Not sure what you mean by having to create a password to get use the forum, though. I would have thought the reasons for that were fairly obvious.

"Not sure what you mean by having to create a password to get use the forum, though. This site not only would not accept that password but wanted a peculiar/un-necessary mixed construction password.
I am too old to becoming a Lemming to sillyness.

All in the name of security
You can always set the forum to remember your login details, though.
-
Btw that subforum does not work for me. I am loged in but apart from couple of comments there is nothing.
-
What "security"?
Think about it!

Well say i was to login to your account and start posting as you (as youd chosen a weak password), i could ruin your name on this forum. Assuming youve used your real name this could have consequences in the real world i.e. losing you work, not making contacts.
Of course i've assumed youve used your real name there, it's entirely possible that you havent but it would be nice if people felt safe enough to use their real name on the internet rather than everyone becoming anonymous.
-
Remus can you clarify? I do not see anything there but some comments.
Oh ....I get it filter is broken. -

Any site moderator should need only the e-mail address of a sender so that they can be refused access if necessary.Just as you can refuse to accept phone calls from certain phone numbers.
(Though still no solution to junk calls on the phone yet! I ask these "survey" people where I can send my standard consulting fee of $50 to! It's magical!)Brian
-
Indeed we can ban people by email, but i was thinking more of your security.
-
Remus, seriously, it's still lemming stuff---what security is given me?
It's all a farce.Anyway, I still have not had clarification on an acceptable working .obj plugin for SU7free nor if that other thread/site is, actually, accessable yet IF one registers.
I live in hope.

I admire your perseverance
You should be able to access the extensions index if you register, there were a few problems a while ago but i think theyve been fixed.
If for whatever reason you cant this is a list of all the obj importers i could find:
Jims one
adamb_obj_importer
objloader, you'll also need progressbar.rb for this one, which you can get from smustard.com (or the extensions index ) -
-
Thanks Remus
Old farts like me need perseverence (including from others!)OK!
The first one seems to be what I have--not yet double checked--but that did not work.(And the information on it's limitations anyway suggest its, really, not viable?)
The other two are complete gobbledygook (sorry--I am not in that world).Brian

Brian, the script that Remus labelled "Jim's one" is an exporter that I use regularly, so it should work. Did you paste it into the Plug-ins folder in your Sketchup folder? Then close and re-open SU. You should see obj_export in the Plug-ins drop-down list when you open SU.
The importer I haven't tried, but again it should work in the same way.
Good luck!
-
It has also worked for me a bunch of times. I don't know what exactly the problem can be but also keep in mind SU's problems with creating very small faces - and it also implies with these importers (this is just a "guesswork")
-
Jims plugin can be a bit dodgy sometimes, i dont know what causes it but it doesnt always work.
The other 2 link straight to the ruby files. All you need to do is copy all the text in to notepad (or something similar) and save it with the name "AdamB_obj_importer.rb" or "objloader.rb" depending on which file your trying to use. Its very important that each file has the .rb extension You then just put the file in your plugins folder as usual.
If you have any problems PM me and i'll talk you through it in a bit more detail.

Seriuosly, still, what proportion of ScetchUp users would know that--I have been with 3D etc for 7 years now and have never had to do that?
Will give it a try but NOT impressed.
(Should I go back to LW and XSI!)Brian
