Remote Proctor

Have you guys ever heard of anything like this?
The remote Proctor:

And more information:
http://www.uwa.edu/academics/onlineprograms/rp/generalinfo.aspxMy wife is getting a Master's Degree and just this session has been told she has to purchase and use the remote Proctor for all future classes. So not only does she have to shell out money for the class but also has to purchase one of these things. Talk about paranoia!
I have to say this does not make me (or her) happy in the slightest. We checked it out and it is legal but I don't see how it ever got passed.
Oh, and when she is finished with her classes and if the device is in good working order (meaning if we did not beat the crap out of it) we are "allowed" to sell it back for a third of the purchase price.
Anybody here ever used one?

I wonder what stops you from writing up all you notes and sticking them to the wall behind the device?
-
The 360 Degree bubble at the top does.

That sucks, cool gizmo however.
I am writting my CKD and CBD in a couple of weeks time, I get to travel 2 hours to the testing place, on two different days and back, so I guess with the facility of being able to sell it back to them you still get off cheaper and more conveniently than me.
-
Submit it to Gizmodo for everyone to laugh.

What annoys you so much about this Eric? It seems like a reasonable technological solution to a modern technological problem (and $150 isn't so much when you consider the overall costs of further education). Regarding paranoia or invasion of privacy it's no different to having a human "proctor" ("invigilator" in Brit. Eng.) in the room which is hardly controversial. The only thing that worries me is how easy it probably is to crack and circumvent, I bet there's several hackers sitting working on it right now.

That one would be easy to crack. All you need is a remote Proctortologist.

Dale, great one.

Good points Jackson. However I would happily pay a proctor or go take a test in a room where I’m watched while taking the test. The proctor (person) doesn’t lock my computer as if I’m going to cheat!
