What render engine are you using?
Care to upload unfinished model, I will try some .mat variations for you to see what you like, do you want it to have an industrial scifi look or like one of your other models a more toy-like look?

I did a very fast texture and render, the idea was to dirty it up, make it look like it's meant for business.

not bad I think I might go for a texture though I have an idea of what I want to do, Im thinking maybe the whole model will be clean but will have some battle scars and signs of use also chipping of paint and discoloration. Thanks BTW I haven't ever applied a texture to a sketchup model before is there a way about doing this without exporting it to another program? I do have deep paint 3d but that means I would have to convert my file type and that means some model quality will be lost.

Yes there is, however trying to explain from scratch may be cumbersome, why not give it a go and ask as you go along if you have any problems.

Here is an x-ray of your model

all rite im gunna find tutorials on how to uv map in sketchup because doing textures any other way is confusing. This is what I quickly whipped up PS~ these textures are from someone else as you can see doing it the way google sketchup wants it to be done isn't working for me BTW I didnt notice how clean my model is until I looked at that xray.

Can anyone help me I don't know how to texture in sketchup. I would like to make textures but the problem is that I want to make scratches and stuff into the texture and it ends up tileing through the model I would think that uv unwrapping would be easier but there is no way for that to be done in sketchup so finding out a specific place where to put the scratches is impossible. I would like to make use of photoshop if possible does anyone how how I can uv map?
