Edges/faces on layer_0, Retain naming of groups/comp. layers

has anyone come accross a script which puts all primitive geometry i.e. edges, faces, construction lines on Layer 0 but retains the layer structure of groups and components.
i came across a script by C. Grant 'put on layer_bmw' , but the shortcoming here is that it transfers even the groups and components to Layer O (this can spoil scenes which are already created).Does anyone know?
