      xrok1,

I recently just tried to clone my laptop HD with windows Vista so I can put a bigger drive in it. It turns out to be so much a pain in the ass that I ended just installing the new HD. On Mac it took SuperDuper something like 2 hours to clone the drive and I stuck it in and no sweat... Partitioning in Windows Vista is the same story. I really hope windows 7 sort things out.

I have both. I love the new I-MAC. It looks great. I set it to dual boot, which now defaults to XP.
I also bought the new mac key board and mouse for my PC. (LOL)

I love the drag and drop interface of the MAC. Not many PC applications have even heard of this feature, yet. But, If you visit the MAC forum, I see they have problems similar to PC users.

I run simply to many applications that are PC based that I can't afford to give up. In the mean time the I-MAC just sits there looking pretty ๐Ÿ˜„

I too have an Imac, pretty thing actually, works great, all neat and clean except for desktop that seems to be the default place everything land on and can look clustered very fast. Anyhow, I hate SU on Mac, and well that's about all that works on Mac that I need for work, so the Mac is my oversized Ipod, great for streaming movies, watching youtube junk and for the kids to play with garage band. For the serious work I need a PC, preferably with XP and all my apps that make my living.

I really do like Mac's they are well built solid machines, but with only about 10% of market share they do not command the software support they would need for the masses to follow.

I wish I could switch over to Bootcamp with 'click' instead of having to shut down first. Parallels and others don't run the graphics card at full power as far as I can see so they are not much use for the Win software that need to use on occasion.

There are reports that Mac running under Bootcamp can get more mpg than PCs.

Our Macbook just had its harddrive fail. ๐Ÿ˜ž It is being replaced on warranty. So much for reliable Apple hardware. Over the years (since the late 1980's) we've always had macs & pc's. In general the macs have been less reliable...

                      I'm bummed out.

                                  Guys,

I recently did a quick comparison between a 17" Dell Precision M6400 and the New 17" MacBook Pro cost wise. The following is how it panned out.

Dell Precision M6400 Covet Mobile Workstation

                                  2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo
                                  4GB,1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
                                  1920x1200 17in Back-Lit Display
                                  200GB SATA Hard Drive
8X DVD+/-RW Drive Slot Load with Optical Media Included
                                  512MB NVIDIA Quadro FX2700M

                                  โ‚ฌ 2,499

                                  MacBook Pro 17"

                                  2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo
                                  4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
                                  1920 x 1200 Glossy Widescreen Display
                                  320GB Drive
                                  SuperDrive 8x (DVDยฑR DL/DVDยฑRW/CD-RW)
                                  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB
                                  Built-in 8-hour battery
AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro (w/or w/o Display)

                                  โ‚ฌ2,344

I also advise that more than likely the Dell would be worth โ‚ฌ500ish after 2 years (id possible to sell) whereas the Mac could be worth in the region of โ‚ฌ1,000 and probably a lot easier to sell to graphic / design students.

I think the demonstrates that Macs are not expensive when compared fairly.

                                  Mike

did you compare the value of being able to run 10x more apps. on the PC? Sorry, I couldn't resist, OK i'm done now. Can we move on to a less controversial discussion about religion or politics now? LOL

                                      xrok1,

I like nothing better than a good old debate. I can hit low at times but dont't take any notice.

On the matter of there being x10 the number of application available for PCs, I agree with you, there are. However I honestly feel that Mac Apps are of a higher quality. So its a matter of 'never mind the width, feel the quality!'

But again I can run all of these Win apps on the Mac under Bootcamp and probably faster than I can on a PC.

                                      Ckeck!

What I don't get is if a Mac is better value for money (see above comparison) and it is bettr built, more stable, and can run widows apps better than windows using basecamp then why the heck do they only have 10% market share?

In my experiance they are well built, very appealing to look at, work great straight out of the box and have less malware. But for serious work with a zillion open apps, internet, network, usb gadgets all working at the same time it shows it's limits. As for malware, there is no point in writting and releasing malware for such a small market, hence they don't bother.

This is not a debate that can ever be won or lost, it's a matter of choice, I chose both, but prefer my PC's for work and Mac for play.
