I got this from my Dad today ๐Ÿ˜„

    Doctors
    (A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
    (B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
    (C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.

    Guns
    (A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million)
    (B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
    (C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.
    Statistics courtesy of the FBI.

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention

Well then, what's the ratio of doctors intentionally killing someone to people intentionally killing someone with a gun?

At the risk of taking this too seriously, i think the result might look rather different if you factored in people saved.

          Of course it would...

I totally agree, they should include the number of people saved by preventing their own and/or other deaths because they owned a firearm during the commission of a crime perpetrated against them. Those "anti-gunners" can't seem to understand statistics... gun deaths not only have a lower rate, guns also save lives.

Whens the last time you had to use a gun to protect your life while you were being attacked? Do you know anyone who has had to?

I'm no "anti-gunner", but I don't think that the amount lives saved by guns in that method isn't anywhere near the number of lives saved by doctors.

I know Eric started this slightly tongue in cheek, but there's some very dubious logic creeping in here.

Death by firearms in the UK 2006....210
Death by firearms in the US 2006....31,000

Even taking into account that the US population is 6 times larger than the UK; and that half of those deaths in the US were suicide...and suicidal Brits usually have to find some other way to top themselves...that's still one heck of a discrepancy. ' Hard to see how they save lives, on balance.

Alan, you may be overlooking something, we have the second ammendment 'Right to bear arms', not sure if it's legal in your country to carry firearms.

That would be the greatist risk for sure.
