Garden collection

Sounds great. These look really awesome and I trust they willl be well worth whatever you charge. Anxiously awaiting. Thank you in advance

Hi Pete!
I see your plants collection is now offered for sale. (http://solosplace.com/3Dgarden.aspx) I'm happy to be one of the first to purchase the set and to support you in this venture. I'm sure the components will be very useful.Regards, Ross

Textures have been carefully mapped and applied using projections and polygon sampling, so exploding groups will destroy the UV mapping.
I've not experienced that.
-
Ok, I see it now. Tried it on one of your plant. Seem to be when components/groups are scaled and skewed. Wasn't aware of that.
...wonder if it's possible to script an explode that doesn't do that.
On a sidenoe: the texture for the Generic tree looks odd and faceted. Is that suppose to be like that?
-
Thanks guys, I appreciate your support.
Thomthom, I have corrected that texture so you can iether re-download from the link you got or simply change the material size from 12' to 1',not sure what happened there as i made sure to check all textures before uploading.
Thanks again guys.

For future collections, do you think the nesting and amount of groups can be reduced?
As mentioned before, V-Ray will take a long time processing scenes with many deeply nested components. While the file size is small, it's not improving the V-Ray rendering time. Not sure how other render engines deal with this. File sizes doesn't concern me too much, all though I understand it's important since the product is download product. But in my experience it's the textures that add up most of the size, the geometry less.
-
Also, it'd be nice if the origin where located around the root or the plant/tree, not the corner of the component.
-
I certainly will look into the nested groups and component thing a lot closer for the next collection, I tried to make this collection as tight as posssible, I know Vray has had issues with nested groups in the past. I do not own Vray and my trial has expired as i would have tested them in Vray if I had it available.
Here are a few plants from the collection posed with one of Tom's houses (Tomsdesk), straight SU output for those that do not render.
-
With the plants I've tested V-Ray seemed to start quickly, but it's been very small tests. So real life tests has to be done. I'll report back when I've tried it on a full scale project. I thought I'd just mention it as I know from previous experience with V-Ray what causes potential issues.
Very nice package Solo. I signed up to be notified on new ones. And very nice price as well!

I can agree to this...!!
And I can confirm that they're perfect for rendering in KT as well...!! -
Thanks guys.
Good news (phew!!) I downloaded another vray trial (running out of email addresses) and rendered scene without any material adjustments, actually without any adjustments period. and all the plants rendered without having to explode any components, so I can say that my plants work with the new version of Vray without hitch.
Excuse the pathetic render, I am new to vray and just wanted to see if the plants rendered okay.
-
Wow Solo! These are gorgeous and will come in very handy. This college student is gonna have to sacrifice a couple meals to get this one!! Priorities

dear solo-
regarding the deeply nested component issue, you might find this explaination by adamb very interesting about components/containers and processor usage:

Thanks Pete for the very nice collection.
A great purchase, real value for money. Already looking forward to the next collection. -
every time I tried to view this thread I was at work and could see none of the images... so could not contribute my request as I had no idea what you had done.
now am downloading my new purchase, thanks Solo!
I would make a request still however, I would like a couple of good 'parking lot' trees... kind of like the now-classic SU aspen... but better looking and more full. If you want photographic examples or scientific names I can get them for you.
-
Solo thanks for the time n effort. This is definitely better than anything I found on 3D Warehouse. I just wish the conversion rate was better. Used to be Β£1 = $2 now its Β£1 = $1.3.
-
Thank you very much for releasing this wonderful collection, Master Solo. I put these plants to work immediately. Rendered in Kerkythea, post-processed in Photoshop. I hope my client likes it .
And I also hope the Washingtonia palm is high on your list for Vol. 2 .
-
That looks fantastic Miguel, and the plants look good too
I like the style, I really need to learn how to do water colors (I work with PSP not photoshop so tutorials are thin on the ground)
I have a washingtonia palm planned as well as a Silver date hybrid palm.
-
Chango... this collection is still very, very cheap. Just compare with anything out there. Never mind the pain bringing it from 3ds to SU.
Solo I hope you plan to bring some trees as well. -
I agree. Just bemoaning how much the Pound have droped in the last half a year. Great work I love them!
