YES most definitely! In a way has not 'change' started already? I never thought he would be elected. I thought that a Country that was capable of putting George Bush (twice) into power could never elect a Black President BUT they did. This is the FIRST change! Just read up on what he has done in the first few days, Guantanamo Bay http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-01/24/content_10711069.htm etc! I think many more good changes for the better are under way and will follow.

The power of speech is a fantastic thing. It can encourage us to reach for goals that we thought were out of reach. I think President Obama will continue to inspire not only US citizens but the rest of the World to get a handle on things before it is too late.

        Mike

Yes everything so far points to a better if not great presidency. I never thought of going to the US to visit my friends because of the Bush administration. Now I really feel like it. I didn't even realise that was the case until Obama got elected.

My God!! This has to the bottom of the barrel when it comes to what's known as "Bush Derangement Syndrome". You got it bad, don't ya?

The revulsion was so deep seated that I didn't even realise that was the reason...

                    Gee Chango,

If you're just moldering away in London, DO COME OVER. Especially out west. There's a lot to the USA besides politics, and some of the people here are nice too!

That's a cool picture (the explorable one). I don't know if it is the same process, but the CNN / Facebook people were showing a composite picture they were stitching (as they were submitted) from cellphone photographs sent in by the crowd. It looks like incredible technology and could eventually relate to placing models in more realistic virtual recreations of sites.

                      Thanks for posting.

I don't know how this thread can progress, because it depends on where you draw the line of real change, and for what issue. I am happy with the election, but I realize there are many things that the government will continue to do to disappoint me, because that's how it functions and these things just don't go away easily. We already know some of these intractable issue with our process. And things like the appointment of the Secretary of Agriculture show blatant support of the status quo. Other things are going to change, but slowly, because it is either imprudent to force the change or it requires a long process. On the other hand this administration will be appreciably different than the last. I think it would be disingenuous to say Obama will be "same as the old boss", and that it won't be interesting (at least).

If by "great presidency" you mean a total disaster for the US, then I agree with you completely.

He only inspires me to gag.

I've been looking at the White House website and his agenda (an agenda he either hid or lied about during the campaign). He seems intent on overthrowing the will of the majority of Americans (expressed at the polls) on several issues, trampling states' rights on other issues, and generally expanding the power, scope, reach, and inefficiency of the federal bureaucracy, to our detriment. It's a far cry from the limited federal government set up by the Founders, a far cry from unifying, and completely uninspiring.

And let's not overlook his abysmal choice of nominee for head of the Treasury Department - a tax evader! It's like making an arsonist the Fire Chief.

                                Bread and circuses, anyone?

.... well nobody is perfect and to get to where he is now, I imagine some deals had to be made, that's politics. For me Obama sounds credible and he seems to have certain amount of polish. We will have to give him a chance and see what happens. He has a difficult road ahead of him after his predecessor's eight year fiasco.

Substituting "terrible" with assinine, childish or sophmoric would be more accurate.
